Film Commissioner - Biography
Film Commissioner, Harry Donenfeld
Harry L. Donenfeld has been a photographer his entire life. Growing up the grandson of legendary comic book publisher Harry Donenfeld, he faced a great challenge and legacy. Always being in the shadow of Superman Harry knew at an early age that he would “save the planet” through his images and stories. It is a journey that has taken him to some of the world’s most exotic and remote locations.
For as long as he can remember, Harry has been fascinated with the concept of recording passages in time, being able to tell an entire story in a single frame and seeing the world in just that moment.
The fascination progressed rapidly from photography to video and then to TV production where he produced three prime-time specials for TLC’s Alien Invasion Week 2000, an award winning children’s series called “Bingo and Molly” and a variety of one-off documentaries like “Black Widow II :Declassified” about a stealth aircraft.

As an active photographer/videographer Harry travels the world in search of tales of adventure to bring back for everyone to see and hear. Since 2007 he has been on expectations like: scuba diving below icebergs in Antarctica, exploring the Beagle Channel in search of Penguins, swimming with the Great White Sharks of Guadalupe Island and even diving on the lava flows of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Harry’s current adventure began in
August of 2011 when he accepted the opportunity to be the Maui County Film Commissioner. A position uniquely suited to his strong and diverse talents. As Film Commissioner he hopes to bring Maui County to the forefront of the Entertainment Industry.
